Western Sound

By all accounts, the season is starting with a bang! We are seeing surface feeds in the morning and evenings as well as intermittent day time blitzes. Far west, the bite around the Norwalk Islands has been great and fishing large baitfish patterns is by far the best bet to hook into some of the larger fish that are around. Bob's Bangers on the surface, large herring flys, beast flys, etc. Don't slouch on squid flies either. Capt Ben Burdine of Apex Angling has been seeing them in all over the western sound!

Eastern Sound

Further east we are seeing a HUGE abundance of mackerel in the sound. Basically from Milford to Branford. Match the Hatch and have something with some barring in your array. Weakfish are mixed in with the bass and blues, so think pink! We had Mike at Stonington Flies make this pattern especially for us and are calling it Liberace!

Closer to the Rhode Island Boarder, its worm season with the upper river estuaries and salt ponds showing a great hatch thus far. While night time is the right time for increasing your odds, my advice is to throw something bigger and meaner than a worm. You will likely elicit a better fish and more strikes.

This is just the start, folks!
