NY Salmon/Steelhead Report as of 11/15/2025
Pictured here is Trevor again with an awesome fish! Water out of the dam at Pineville is at 1310 cfs, a substantial increase from last week. Highs this week are cooler in the 50’s with temperatures at night dipping into the 30’s. Lots of rain and the potential for some snow this week so plan accordingly.
Still some good fishing left for salmon as the run was a bit late this year but it is now mostly steelhead. Steelhead are pushing up more and more while they eat the eggs from the spawning kings. With the high water it may be more challenging to land fish from the bank but don’t be discouraged.
The most steady producer as of late has been eggs, especially with the salmon spawning. Things like steelie omelets, estaz eggs, crystal meth, and glo-bugs. Streamers can also be effective. Woolly buggers, leeches, egg sucking streamers, and other variations (#4-8). Having these in different weights and colors will give you a good shot at fish through the river. Streamers are good for working the deeper pools and covering water. Eggs and flashy nymphs (#10-14) are also a good choice. Eggs are most effective downstream of major staging areas where the eggs drift downstream. With the higher water you may want to think about the weight of your rig so you get down.
Salmon are a blast on the fly rod. We are stocked up in the shop with gear and flies. Stop by to get set up and prepared for a trip to NY. Remember to always respect the wildlife and look at the specific guidelines of where you are fishing on the NYS DEC website. Currently we have everything you need to catch these beasts! Tight Lines!
